It is 2013, and the world continues to turn, clearly not destined to end in 2012. I started the new year with a resolution not to make a resolution until the end of January. Instead, I used January to take stock and really think about what I wanted to use 2013 to achieve. What I decided made me sort of wish I had made up a flimsy resolution at the start of the year – the ones that everyone knows aren’t really meant to go past January.
Instead, I have made the mildly insane decision that from 31 January 2013 to 31 January 2014, I will do something for charity every single day. This is my record of it – I am over two months in, and so far I have managed. Naturally, some days are more interesting than others, but I have ascertained at least that it is possible, and I am determined to complete my 365 days.
I would welcome ideas and support along the way – as much as anything, I want it to be interesting for people to read! I also want this blog to be proof that there are simple ways that means everyone can give something back every so often (or every day if you want to be like me, i.e. sort of nuts). I’m trying to do it in a way that means I personally don’t become a charity case, so I am looking at lots of different ways that mean you can get involved in charity without having to always be donating money. Most, if not all, charities will tell you that your time is a hugely valuable resource too.
My first few posts will be backdated information of what I have done so far. I will blog weekly, listing what I’ve done that week, with a feature piece on the most entertaining story, plus details on which charity made me want to get more involved and why.
I really hope you enjoy reading it as much as I have enjoyed completing the challenge so far, and that it inspires you to give back too.
